The Commission on Civil Protection of the Federal Ministry of the Interior
gives recommendations to the Federal Government as well as the standing conference of the Ministers of the Interior in scientific and scientific-technical questions in civil protection.
At present the Commission comprises 33 full members and 2 honorary members. Their expertise covers quite a great number of relevant scientific fields. Work is organised in three Departments – Medicine, Natural Sciences & Engineering, and Social Sciences.
The Commission deals with interdisciplinary issues which have been requested for consultation by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance. In addition, specific issues relevant for discussion are identified by the Commission.
